Our Difference:
Lightning Cattle Company was founded in 2018 by cousins Ben and Adam Light with a simple but ambitious beginning: one bull and two heifers. Rooted in Pennsylvania agriculture, the Lights built their operation on a lifetime of hands-on farming experience and a deep respect for cattle that spans generations.
Although Wagyu beef is often considered a modern luxury in the United States, it has been part of the Light family story since the 1990s—long before it became widely known or sought after. When their grandfather was owed a debt, payment didn’t come in cash, but rather in Wagyu cattle, planting the seeds for what would later become Lightning Cattle Company. That early exposure gave the family a rare foundational understanding of the breed during a time when Wagyu was still largely unknown in American agriculture.
With Adam owning and operating a dairy farm, the brothers had access to high-quality Holstein cattle, which led them to begin breeding American Holstein–Wagyu crosses. This combination proved successful, producing consistently flavorful beef while maintaining strong, healthy animals.
In 2022, Austin Zechman joined Lightning Cattle Company to help build the brand and introduce locally raised Wagyu beef to the surrounding Pennsylvania communities. With a strong background in sales, networking, and customer relationships, Austin completed the triangle that allows the business to thrive.
As the team likes to say:
“Adam and Ben raise them. Austin gets rid of them.”
This balance of responsibilities is key to Lightning Cattle Company’s success. Ben and Adam focus on animal care, breeding, and farm operations, while Austin ensures the beef reaches customers who value transparency, quality, and local food systems.
There are no middlemen, no third parties, and no shortcuts. From pasture to plate, every step is handled with care, accountability, and pride—right here in Pennsylvania.
As interest in premium beef and farm‑direct food continues to grow across the U.S., Lightning Cattle Company remains focused on what matters most: quality cattle, honest practices, and exceptional Wagyu beef raised by people who stand behind it.
